The Environment

The late president Richard M Nixon called our putting a man on the moon the greatest event since creation. If that expensive project is the greatest event since creation, how much is creation worth?

In looking at the budgets of most Republicans, it is not worth all that much. As Rush Limbaugh has said (& I can't quote him - my memory of when I heard this is a bit sketchy. If he by some strange chance reads this I would welcome a correction if I misquote): we shouldn't pass laws prohibiting or hindering free enterprise unless they are absolutely necessary.

This whole concept of protecting free enterprise at the risk of endangering the environment, or endangering lives and health (what conservatives like OSHA?) has convinced me that the conservative agenda is not a Christian agenda, and that free enterprise, while probably the most efficient way of running an economic system, is not necessarily a Christian way.

We are commanded by God in Genesis to "subdue" the earth. This does not mean to beat it into submission, but implies taking care of the creation.  In Revelation 11:18 it states that God will "destroy those who destroy the earth."
