This is a subject that shouldn't need a whole lot of discussion or thought from the point of view of a Christian, right? I don't know of any Christians who feel that abortion is right. But what to do about it is another story. The Supreme Court's recent ruling nullifying a Kansas law which outlawed "partial birth" abortions leaves little hope for a solution through law. Passing a constitutional amendment would be the only way to go - but it would never be ratified by 2/3 of the states in the time allotted for that purpose. We could be putting a lot of resources into a battle which at this time cannot be won. So what's the solution? I wish I had one. "The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness
and wickedness of men who suppress the truth by their wickedness, since what may
be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. For
since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities--his eternal power and
divine nature--have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made,
so that men are without excuse. The above passage deals primarily with sexual sin, of which abortion is a by-product. If this is a true cause-effect relationship, then the solution must be spiritual - not legal. Controversial enough? Is the best solution a spiritual one? |
